Project overview
Built from spare parts and affection
No. 5 began as a commission for a seven-year-old who wanted "a robot that feels". We gave him long legs for adventures and a visible heart so the feeling had somewhere to live. He stayed in the shop by popular demand.
- Medium: archival giclée, 12 pigment inks
- Sizes: 8×10" to 24×32", framed or unframed
- Edition: open, signed by the studio
Approach
Retro tin, modern heart
The robot's body borrows from 1950s tin toys — rivets, dials, slightly uneven legs — while the teal night sky keeps him firmly in a storybook. The glowing heart is printed with an extra hit of warm ink so it genuinely glows against the cool ground.
He hangs in playrooms, dorm rooms and one very cool dentist's office. Robots No. 1–4 exist only as sketches; No. 5 was the first one with manners.
Results
The piece that launched our commissions service — half of all robot enquiries still say "like No. 5, but ours". The original commissioner's family gets a free print for life.
