Project overview
Follow the green arrows
Created as a pitch illustration for a picture book about a river that keeps changing its mind, Riverbend Map packs a cabin, a campfire, two opinionated arrows and one excellent bend into a single square.
- Client: picture-book pitch, 2025
- Deliverables: cover art, endpaper map, spot illustrations
- Status: available for licensing & commissions
Approach
A map that reads like a story
Every element earns its place by moving the eye downstream: the arrows push, the river pulls, the campfire stops you for exactly one page. The brown-and-teal palette came from old National Park brochures — outdoorsy, trustworthy, slightly sun-faded.
The pitch didn't land a publisher, but the map landed something better: three licensing enquiries and a permanent spot in our portfolio. The book, retitled and rewritten, is funding now — the river gets its ending.
Results
Licensed for a regional parks poster run, exhibited at two illustration fairs, and the reason our commissions inbox has a dedicated "maps" folder.
